Political Participation
The “individualistic” approach examines the values and attitudes of individuals, frequently via using surveys. Because political culture can’t be instantly measured, respondents are requested questions designed to illuminate their views about political culture. Unfortunately, there is all the time the likelihood that the questions asked don’t adequately characterize the feelings of the population and should not properly measure the ideas being examined.
The “institutional” strategy involves the analysis of documents to discern the collective behaviour of political institutions. First, academics attempt to describe a political culture by observing and analysing political behaviour as mirrored by a structure and by laws and the structure of presidency. Second, the geographic, demographic and socioeconomic features of a society are analysed; and third, the historical underpinnings which have decided a political system are sometimes examined.
